GEORGE W. GORE/THOMAS J. CRAWFORD
GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarship awards of $2000 each will be presented annually on a competitive basis
to an active Alpha Kappa Mu member. This scholarship is named to honor Dr. George W. Gore, Jr., founder and Thomas
James Crawford, Executive Secretary-Treasurer.
Criteria for Selection
- Current (active) membership in Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society.
- Nomination MUST come from the chapter. Each chapter may nominate only ONE member.
- Nominees must be prospective graduate or prospective professional students anticipating the awarding of the baccalaureate
degree by the end of the academic year of the nomination
- Demonstrated scholarship
Policies and Procedures
- All completed applications and nomination blanks, official transcripts, scores for GRE (Aptitude and Major
Field), LSAT, GMAT, or MCAT, and letters of recommendations should be submitted in one package. Chapter
advisors are asked to collect all materials.
- Chapter advisors should forward ALL material (the completed package) under ONE cover postmarked on or
before February 15 to:

- Scores from the test most appropriate for your graduate major or professional school must be submitted.
- It is the responsibility of the APPLICANT to insure that an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT of academic records through the fall
term, scores for Graduate Record Examination ( Aptitude and Advanced Tests ) GRE, or Law School Admission Test
(LSAT), or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), or Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) are available
to the chapter advisor for submission to the Alpha Kappa Mu Awards Committee.
- Official transcripts must include grades through the fall term of the academic year.
- Letters of recommendation are evaluated in terms of skills perceived necessary to do graduate work, not participation
in extra-curricular activities.
- Evaluation of applications will be on the point system. Awards will be made at the discretion of the Awards
Committee.
- Winners will be announced at the Regional or National Meeting and in the Alpha Kappa Mu Newsletter.
- Failure of the winner to enroll during the award academic year as a FULL-TIME student in a qualified higher education
institution will forfeit the award.
- Winners of the awards are asked to be present at the Meeting in order to be photographed while accepting the
award.
- Recipients of awards will receive their stipends in equal installments distributed over the number of terms in the
academic year of the schools in which they are enrolled. All stipends will be paid by the Executive Secretary-Treasurer
of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. The first installment will be made upon proof of registration for the first
term of the academic year from the Office of the Registrar of the college or university in which the recipient
is enrolled for graduate study. Succeeding installments will be made for the term just ended together with official
proof of registration for the ensuing term. Please note that documents mentioned here should be OFFICIAL from
the office of the registrar of the institution concerned. Request the Registrar’s Office to mail required
